Lebanon High School senior, Emma Hornbecker, was recently named one of the recipients of the 2024 Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship from the Community Foundation of Boone County. 

Selected for her exceptional community involvement, academic success, character, and leadership qualities, Emma Hornbecker exemplifies the esteemed Lilly Endowment Community Scholars. The scholarship provides full tuition, required fees, and a dedicated allowance of up to $900 annually for essential books and equipment throughout four years of undergraduate study. Recipients may utilize the scholarship at any eligible Indiana public or private nonprofit college or university, pursuing a full-time baccalaureate degree. Additionally, scholars have the opportunity to engage with the Lilly Scholars Network (LSN), a platform fostering connections, resources, and leadership initiatives for current scholars and alumni.

Boone County’s Lilly Endowment Community Scholar nominees undergo a rigorous selection process, requiring students to rank in the top 20% of their graduating class, exhibit outstanding dedication to Boone County and surrounding communities, and commit to a full-time undergraduate course of study at an Indiana college or university.

Emma stands out as a remarkably talented individual, showcasing her exceptional abilities as a skilled vocalist, scholar, and athlete at Lebanon High School. Her role as the girls’ golf team captain and her regular lead performances in the school’s musical productions highlight her wide-ranging talents.

Emma actively participates in show choir, earning the coveted title of Great American Songbook Ambassador—a prestigious summer intensive program. Her involvement as president of DECA showcases her commitment to leadership and community engagement, including successful fundraising efforts to support members attending the national convention. Outside school, Emma volunteers extensively across Boone County with organizations such as Key Club, Shalom House, and the Black Box Theater Company.

Emma’s future aspirations reflect her passion for vocal performance and biology, intending to pursue these opportunities at Indiana University or Notre Dame. Aspiring to become an obstetrician-gynecologist while contributing to the local theater community, Emma exemplifies dedication and ambition in her chosen endeavors.
