DeBard Named Indiana Teacher of the Year Finalist

Lebanon Community School Corporation is proud to announce that Josh DeBard has been selected as one of the Top 10 Finalists for the 2023 Indiana Teacher of the Year program. DeBard is a social studies teacher at Lebanon High School, where he is highly regarded by his students, colleagues, and administrators for his passion and dedication to serving our school community.

Dr. Jon Milleman, Superintendent of Lebanon Community School Corporation, shares that DeBard is a skilled instructor, dedicated to instructional methods that are both engaging and rigorous. “His enthusiasm is infectious, and he strives to meet the needs of each and every student in his classroom. Being present in Mr. DeBard’s classroom is both awe-inspiring and humbling. Students see themselves as creative, independent, and capable learners. He empowers them to think critically. Mr. DeBard is an exemplary model of a lifelong learner for both his students and colleagues, and he inspires everyone toward excellence.”

The Indiana Department of Education oversees the Indiana Teacher of the Year program, working to inspire, rejuvenate, and celebrate the teaching profession by recognizing outstanding teachers from across the state. DeBard, who was selected as Lebanon Community School Corporation’s Distinguished Educator in May 2022, was nominated and completed the application process for the state program. The selection committee will interview the top ten finalists in September in order to name a recipient of the honor of 2023 Indiana Teacher of the Year.
