Lisa Hutcheson, School Board Vice-President

Q1: Tell us a bit about yourself. What inspired you to join the school board?

We have had two sons go through the LCSC (class of 2019 and class of 2023), so I naturally had an interest. I have learned so much in my 6+ years on the board and feel I have a better understanding of the policies that govern public schools, and the budgeting and decision making processes. Through it all, even in times of controversy or emergency, I strive to put all students first when thinking through a decision.

Q2: Please share your role and responsibilities as a school board member?

I am Vice President of the board and fill in for the president if they are not available for a meeting. I would also take the place of the president if they were no longer able to fulfill their board duties.

Q3: What LCSC achievements or contributions are you most proud of during your time on the school board?

I was honored as a newly elected school board member to engage in the process of hiring a new superintendent after Dr. Taylor retired and was pleased to recommend Dr. Milleman for the job. It has also been exciting to have been a part of the referendum, and to finally see the vision of a new elementary and upgrades to all schools come to life!

Q4: If you could give one piece of advice to our students, what would it be?

Turn off the social media noise that tells you that you aren't smart enough, pretty enough, athletic enough, not good enough - you are unique, loved, and you are enough!

Q5: What was your favorite school subject growing up?

I loved English and anything that had to do with words (still do!).

Q6: What is your favorite school event, and why?

I love graduation! It's so hopeful to see students moving on to the next phase of life, whether that be college, work, or the military, and to see happy families and friends celebrating with the graduates. (I also was really touched to sign both of our sons' diplomas!)

Q7: What was your all-time favorite school lunch?

My all time favorite school lunch was the cheeseburger combo with crinkle cut fries (and a carton of some questionable orange beverage 😃)

Q8: What are some of your hobbies or activities outside of being on the school board?

I love gardening, reading, baking, and shopping for thrift treasures (and all things British).

Q9: What is your favorite thing about being a part of LCSC? (Traditions, Culture, Community, etc.) OR what makes LCSC unique/special?

Both of our sons were in jazz and marching bands and I really enjoyed (and still enjoy) all the competitions and concerts. LCSC has some very talented students who can sing, act, dance, and create art!
