Central Elementary Students Pack Away Hunger
On September 18, 2023, Central Elementary's 5th grade classes volunteered their time to Pack Away Hunger, a local organization dedicated to fighting hunger and providing meals for those in need. The students worked together to pack 8,640 meals, which will be distributed to food pantries and other organizations that serve people facing food insecurity.
The students were excited to have the opportunity to give back to their community. They learned about the importance of food security and the impact that hunger has on people of all ages. They also learned how to work together as a team to accomplish a common goal.
"I was so proud of our students for their dedication to helping others," said Central Elementary Principal McKenzie Leckrone.
Pack Away Hunger is a non-profit organization that has been providing meals to those in need since 2010. The organization relies on volunteers to pack and distribute meals.
The students' efforts were also supported by a $3,500 donation from Boone REMC's Operation Round Up program. Operation Round Up is a program that collects donations from Boone REMC customers who round up their electric bills to the nearest dollar. The money raised is then donated to local charities and organizations.
The students' volunteerism is a reminder that everyone can make a difference in the fight against hunger and that even the smallest acts of kindness can make a big difference!
