The 8th Grade students at Lebanon Middle School had the opportunity to participate in one of six service learning projects. The purpose of the service learning projects is to give the students and opportunity to learn of needs in our community and research how a service learning project could be beneficial in filling these needs. Students went through the process of investigation, preparation, action, reflection, demonstration and evaluation in addressing real world issues that affect our community.
Students were given the opportunity to choose one of six projects they wanted to participate. Those projects and descriptions are below. The service groups then began meeting during a Seminar time in which students heard from guest speakers, investigated a problem, prepared for their work day and reflected on what they have accomplished and learned.
Guest speakers from the various organizations came out to Lebanon Middle School to speak to each of the groups about the service on Wednesday, March 15. They kicked off the beginning of the service learning projects for the 8th grade. The Service Work day was then held on Wednesday, March 29th, at various locations.
This project will come to fruition with a poster session in May in which the students will prepare a poster highlighting what was accomplished and learned along with giving a presentation.
