eLearning Student Guide
Beginning with the 2019-2020 school year, LCSC will implement eLearning days as a replacement for missed school days due to unplanned emergency closings.
LCSC will utilize Canvas, along with other technology-rich instructional activities as common practices, in our K-12 classrooms. Our goal is for students to be versed in using digital resources as a part of their daily learning experience, making this type of learning format quite natural for them.
-
Accommodations
Learning plans will include provisions for eLearning accommodations for students who are eligible for accommodations i.e. Special Education Individual Education Plans (IEP), English Learners Individual Learning Plans (ILP) and Section 504 Plans.
-
Attendance
LCSC students will acknowledge their attendance during the eLearning day by responding to an attendance check off requirement located within Canvas.
-
Devices + Wi-Fi
Can I complete my eLearning day assignment on a personal device?
Yes, in most cases. Assignments will be available in Canvas and will likely be able to be completed on any computer, tablet, or even cellular phone. In the event that a specific app or feature is required and not available, the five-day eLearning assignment window allows time for students to complete the task at school on their district-issued device.
Please note that technology support is available only for students using district-issued devices.
Will students need and have access to the Internet?
Using eLearning does not mean all households must have Wi-Fi, although many students and teachers have the ability to access digital learning away from school. You can find a list of establishments offering free public wi-fi under Resources.
Will students be allowed to take home a device?
Yes, provided you have a completed Student Device Use Agreement Form. Prior to taking home a device, please carefully review all instructional technology device policies and procedures.

eLearning Day Assignments
Teachers will inform students of their lessons, activities and assignments through each teacher’s Canvas home page by 9:00 a.m. If a delay day becomes a cancellation day, the deadline extends to 11:00 a.m.
eLearning Day Assignment Completion Expectations
- While it is preferred for students to complete assignments on the day of the cancellation, a five-day eLearning window provides students adequate time to complete and submit the assignments through their Canvas module page.
- Day #1 of the eLearning window is the first day of the cancellation.
- The final deadline for submitting completed assignments is the start of class on the fifth and final school day of the eLearning window.
- Teachers will grant an extension for students to complete work when school is canceled for two or more consecutive days.
- IMPORTANT: The five-day eLearning window only counts school days. Weekends and holidays are excluded from the eLearning window
Student Work Expectations for eLearning
- Student “work load” is determined by grade level, the lesson plans for that day, the types of courses students are taking, and the amount of time needed to complete the learning experiences.
- Grades K-5: Students should expect to have an eLearning assignment for reading, language arts, math, science and/or social studies, and a special area class.
- Grades 6-12: Students should expect to have eLearning work for each class in their schedule.
-
Teacher Availability
- Teachers will post their assignments, availability and contact information on their Canvas course home page.
- Students and parents may contact teachers for instructional support during regular school day hours by following the directions posted by the individual teachers on their Canvas home page.
-
Technology Assistance
If there seems to be a technology problem at the district level, students or parents should contact the eLearning Help Desk.
In the event of a widespread technology issue, LCSC will communicate the problem and any solution via ParentLink. If the problem is not determined to be a district issue, staff will work with the student/parent to address the concern on a case-by-case basis when students return to school.
