  • This is a revised calendar of events. Many questions have come up about events, visitors and volunteers.

    Volunteers for any school event: No siblings, cousins, family members under the age of 18 are to accompany the volunteer during the school day.

    LHS Senior Final Elementary Walk - we cannot accommodate visitors and parents of the seniors. This was an add on to instill motivation to our elementary students to graduate from High School. Please know we are proud of our seniors and want parents to attend the Senior High School events for their child.

    Grade 5 Picnic - Same volunteer protocols as this is a school day.

    Grade 5 Last Walk - Parents may stay to observe but must be respectful to our other 400 students trying to dismiss after the Grade 5 students leave the building.

    Talent Show - we invite our students to view the show which takes up a lot of space in the gym. We have room only to accommodate parents and family members of the performers.

    Field Day - Volunteers will be permitted only if it was prearranged by the classroom teacher or a Pink Volunteer form was returned to Mrs. Hammel. We cannot have spectators or visitors on this day due to the amount of activities. We cannot accommodate Lunch Visitors with students on the this last day.

    We are very happy to offer these opportunities to our students and families. We have to maintain a safe environment while still making it a fun and memorable experience.

  • Dear Families,

    This is the time of year where we are even more busy in the Harney House. We can't believe it is the End of the Year already. Time sure does fly by. Attached to this message is the calendar dates and times for all of our activities.

    FIELD DAY SHIRTS - we have about 100 students without shirts. If you can make a donation to cover the cost, it will help us immensely to cover the cost. If you have not returned your forms, PTO is still take them this week. This is a great spirit wear item for the following year. We do color groups as a safety measure and to have rainbows of color in our teams lead by student captains. Grade 5 has the opportunity to purchase a t-shirt for their Picnic, Field Day or as a Captain. You are not obligated to buy all 3.

    Our Harney Showcase will be an awesome time to see the collection of talent as artists, musicians, runners, engineers. Take time to walk the gallery on the evening of May 2nd.

    PTO - Nominations for officers will be taken today through tomorrow morning at 8:00 a.m. - email nominations to dyej@leb.k12.in.us These will be posted on PTO Website. A paper ballot will be available at the Harney Showcase for voting - the site will be near the office. Look for more information on nominees and process coming today and tomorrow. The official count and notification will be announced and new officers approved at the next May PTO meeting.

  • Science Fair applications are due January 9th. This was sent home by teachers a little while ago. It will also be sent via email, social media and posted on the website. Harney's Science Fair will by on January 31st. We hope that you will support this school event by having your child work individual or with a partner to complete and submit a project. Science Fair Boards will be on sale when we return for $4.00 each.

  • It's almost here.... We need to fill our halls with cheer! Our Elves have been busy keeping students on track for next week. Here is a way they thought we could spread joy. Spirit Week! It is voluntary and we do not expect it to be a cost to parents. There will be a 5x7" paper copy coming home, an email sent, and postings on our Harney FB and website. This starts on Monday - December 17th.

    This notice will also go home on a 5 x 7 piece of bright goldenrod paper. It will be on email, Facebook, Website. Please insure that extended family members are aware of the procedures. Seats are first come first serve.

  • Good evening,

    This message is for all families, staff, and community partners who may have a preschool-aged child or know a family with preschool-aged children. We are excited to share that these children may be eligible to participate in a free online early learning program to prepare for kindergarten.

    LCSC and Mental Health America of Boone County have partnered with Waterford UPSTART to bring this program to our community. Waterford UPSTART is an in-home, technology-delivered kindergarten readiness program that gives preschool-aged children individualized reading, math and science instruction in 15-30 minutes a day, five days a week. Participants will receive a Chromebook laptop, which they keep upon successful completion, as well as WiFi to use for the duration of the program.

    Eligible children must be born between August 2, 2013 and August 1, 2014 and entering kindergarten in fall 2019. Eligibility is based on income, and eligible students cannot be currently utilizing a pre-kindergarten voucher.

    We invite interested families to join us on Thursday, December 6 from 6-7 p.m. at Hattie B. Stokes Elementary to learn more about this program, confirm eligibility, and complete the pre-registration process. Dinner will be provided by Mental Health America of Boone County. You may also pre-register by calling 1-888-982-9898 or visiting www.waterfordupstart.org.

    Following pre-registration, all participating families will need to attend a parent training and student intake session on Wednesday, December 12 from 6-7:30 p.m. at Hattie B. Stokes Elementary. All students represented by a parent will also receive a $20 gas card, and dinner will be provided for all attendees by Waterford UPSTART.

  • Dear Harney Parents, Guardians and Staff,

    We wanted to let you know that we had a great board meeting tonight and have made the decision to streamline the calendar for the rest of the 2018/2019 school year. We recognize how important your time is and how busy the month of December is and because of this, we have decided to not move forward with the Winterfest this year. We have also decided to merge the November and December board meetings. The meeting will be held on Wednesday , November 28, 2018 at 7:00 pm in the library. (
    We will be sending an updated calendar within the next few weeks, but we wanted to make you aware of the December changes as soon as possible.

  • We invite our Veterans to our program on Monday, November 12th. We will dedicate our front main door parking to handicap sticker vehicles. The back lot will be dedicated to guests. All staff will park on the black top. The invitation and details for the program are on the attached document.

  • Official Letter to explain Evacuation Drill for November 9, 2018 at Harney Elementary.

  • Friday, November 9, 2018 we will participate in an all school evacuation drill. The doors to our building will be locked and our school will not be available from 9:30-10:30 a.m. We will be taking our students on several evacuation routes to our rally point, take attendance, and then walk back to school. Because this is a drill, there will be additional safety and emergency vehicles present to assist us along the routes and at the movie theater. Please make sure to dress your child in appropriate weather related clothing and shoes. Because this is a drill, we will insure that students have their coats, hats, gloves and shoes on before we evacuate. Please read more for additional information. We will be discussing this drill with students tomorrow to prepare them. Feel free to contact Dr. Dye, Mrs. Davis, or Officer Tibbs if you have any questions. It is our hopes that we NEVER have to do this type of emergency response ever. Thank you for your continued support.

  • We hope you have a safe Fall Break! We will return on Monday, October 29, 2018. First Quarter Grades should be officially posted for parent view by this Friday. Many things are in store for the next grading period. Stay tuned for more info on PTO and SCHOOL Events. All Pro Dad's Breakfast is this Friday. Come for a PEP Talk with your children and have a great breakfast around 7:45-8:45 a.m. See the important announcement about our Veteran's Day Program.

  • Join us for a time to have fun before the Lebanon High School Football Game! Bring a chair, a snack, a drink or cash for concessions. PTO will provide water and pizza for a pregame treat until it runs out. Look for our Harney Group 6:00 p.m. and then stay for the game at 7:00 p.m.

  • Greetings,

    Today is the day we will receive our guests and visitors into school, provided that you have a criminal background check completed and on file. This year, there is about a 2 week turn around time on these checks through the change of company. Remember, safety is not always convenient, but it is worth our student and staff safety to make sure we all comply with this policy. Some things to know about lunch time:
    1. Please do not bring in outside food or treats to share with other students.
    2. Plan to sit with your child at a designated table.
    3. Plan to pay for an adult lunch which comes with 2 visits to the fresh fruit and salad bar.
    4. Enjoy your special time with your child.

    News about Lunch Balances:
    1. We have a no charge policy. Parents are expected to send in money or pay online regularly to maintain a positive balance in their child's account.
    2. The USDA makes the rules and provisions for what we can offer that meets the nutrition value guidelines. If there are any dairy allergies, we can make provisions. We also have a Fresh Fruit and Salad Bar that a student can add for free to their cheese sandwich and milk entrée.
    3. Lunch Balance Letters go out in student book bags/folders every Monday and Thursday for parent review. For habitual negative balances, a personal letter goes home with it that states the balance and where to find assistance.
    4. If a balance on the account is negative, breakfast as well cannot be provided.
    5. Parents who habitually are late in payments or have a negative balance in their child's account are called personally by our cafeteria manager.
    6. Parents can set their Skyward Account to alert them of low balances.
    7. If a parent gets in a bind, call our cafeteria manager and she will assist in anyway she can.
    8. We are not into shaming or disrespecting a child for a parent's negligence in paying their child's lunch. A parent has many warnings, options, and notifications to avoid their child not getting a full choice lunch. Send them with a home lunch until the negative balance can be paid.
